About RCPC

Racine County Pony Club is part of the Lakeshore Region of the United States Pony Club organization. Our region consists of 13 clubs as far north as Superior, Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula down to southeastern Wisconsin.

The Racine County Pony Club (RCPC) was first chartered as a club in 1967, and began with a lesson program for Prairie School students with leased horses from a local stable. As the club grew, school horses were purchased and then leased out to pony club members. The early club was able to buy horses, fix up a tack room, build a riding ring and buy jumps. Horse people from the neighborhood were anxious to see this education of young people continue and Racine County Pony Club was formed with a board of directors and two riding instructors. Our club currently has approximately 24 active members ranging from 7 to 19 years of age, with rating levels of unrated through HB.

RCPC meets at the Racine County Pony Club Equestrian Center located at 5518 Highway 31 in Racine, Wisconsin. We are proud to note that this is the only Pony Club owned and operated equestrian center in the country. It was made possible through the volunteer efforts of our members, their parents and other pony club sponsors. In addition to local mounted clinics, we also hold our monthly meetings, camps, regional clinics, educational seminars and other social activities at the center. Many members board at the RCPC Equestrian Center, some board at local barns, others keep their horses at home, and some members borrow horses or ponies to ride in mounted activities. Children do not need to own a horse to belong to the club, however, they do need access to one when the activities are mounted clinics, camps or rally activities.

If you have any questions in regards to membership, please contact Beth Gronland, District Commissioner (DC)

If you have any questions in regard to the boarding or Center programs, please contact Randi Tepley, Equestrian Center Manager.

The USPC Horsemasters Riding Program

“I wish I could have been in Pony Club as a kid.” And “There should be an adult Pony Club.” are two of the comments we have heard repeated regularly by the adults that help with Pony Club activities. It was very exciting when USPC decided to develop Pony Club for Adults. It’s called “Horsemasters”. The purpose of the USPC Horsemasters program is many fold. The primary purpose is to develop adult volunteers for Pony Club activities. Volunteers are crucial to the survival of local Pony Club programs. Another purpose is to develop “community awareness” of Pony Club by offering adult activities. A third purpose is to offer adult horse-lovers the opportunity to increase their equine knowledge and skills through the terrific Pony Club curriculum. And a fourth purpose, which has become a driving force behind our many Lake Shore Region Horsemasters, is to provide an “adult connect” social atmosphere.

A Horsemasters group is not a “stand alone” club. It is a group that is either connected to the Pony Club region or is part of a local club. The Lake Shore Region has several Horsemasters groups which are a part of the local clubs. Every Horsemasters group has a liaison. The liaison organizes activities, takes care of the paper work and insurance for the group, responds to USPC , and keeps the group informed about upcoming volunteer opportunities. The liaison works directly with the Club DC (District Commissioner) or the Region RS (Regional Supervisor) depending on whether the group is a associated with a club or region.

The main reason that USPC developed the Horsemaster Program was to develop volunteers for Pony Club activities. But, there’s so much more to it also. It is a great way to make new horsey friends, participate in Pony Club mounted activities, learn from the Pony Club curriculum, become involved in your local club’s horse management meetings and help at Regional events. The Horsemasters Program is designed for those who want to Learn, Love, Share and Grow.
