USPC Horsemasters Program now at RCPC

“I wish I could have been in Pony Club as a kid.” And “There should be an adult Pony Club.” are two of the comments we have heard repeated regularly by the adults that help with Pony Club activities. It was very exciting when USPC decided to develop Pony Club for Adults. It’s called “Horsemasters”. The purpose of the USPC Horsemasters program is many fold. The primary purpose is to develop adult volunteers for Pony Club activities. Volunteers are crucial to the survival of local Pony Club programs. Another purpose is to develop “community awareness” of Pony Club by offering adult activities. A third purpose is to offer adult horse-lovers the opportunity to increase their equine knowledge and skills through the terrific Pony Club curriculum. And a fourth purpose, which has become a driving force behind our many Lake Shore Region Horsemasters, is to provide an “adult connect” social atmosphere.

A Horsemasters group is not a “stand alone” club. It is a group that is either connected to the Pony Club region or is part of a local club. The Lake Shore Region has several Horsemasters groups which are a part of the local clubs. Every Horsemasters group has a liaison. The liaison organizes activities, takes care of the paper work and insurance for the group, responds to USPC , and keeps the group informed about upcoming volunteer opportunities. The liaison works directly with the Club DC (District Commissioner) or the Region RS (Regional Supervisor) depending on whether the group is a associated with a club or region.

The main reason that USPC developed the Horsemaster Program was to develop volunteers for Pony Club activities. But, there’s so much more to it also. It is a great way to make new horsey friends, participate in Pony Club mounted activities, learn from the Pony Club curriculum, become involved in your local club’s horse management meetings and help at Regional events. The Horsemasters Program is designed for those who want to Learn, Love, Share and Grow.
